Georgia Intrastate Motor Carrier Registration
(GIMC) Program
Note: The 2025 GIMC is Now Open. Registration deadline is December 31, 2024. Application fee per vehicle
will be $25.00 after the deadline. Enforcement begins January 1, 2025.
The Georgia Intrastate Motor Carrier (GIMC) Registration Program is a process for commercial carriers, brokers,
freight forwarders, and leasing companies to register its companies with the Georgia Department of Public Safety
(DPS). The GIMC Registration is required by law but is only applicable to those motor carriers operating certain
motor vehicles in Intrastate Commerce (Georgia only). Motor Carrier individuals and companies who operate vehicles in Interstate
Commerce (from state to state) must register under the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR).
Motor carriers have the following options for submitting applications for GIMC registration: Online, mail, e-mail, fax, or at our

GIMC Required Training
1. Department of Public Safety (DPS) provides educational training that
meets educational requirements set forth
by the Commissioner. Click here

Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Plan

The federally mandated Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Plan requires individuals and companies
that operate private or for-hire commercial motor vehicles in
Interstate or International Commerce to
register its business with the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS). Additionally, in accordance
with state and federal law, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies are also required to
register under the UCR Plan. The following carriers are required to file under the UCR Plan:
- Motor carriers providing commercial motor vehicle transportation in interstate commerce for
compensation.
- Motor private carriers transporting property by motor vehicle when the motor carrier is the
owner or lessee of the property being transported, and the property is being transported for sale,
lease or rent or to further a commercial enterprise.
- Brokers, Freight Forwarders or Leasing Companies.
